Henry Peters hasn’t got much to boast about. He’s not showy, has average intelligence, and he’s definitely not a big noter.
Living in Christchurch suburbia with his wife, Henry teaches coveted overseas students in a private training establishment. He likes his students, some more than others, and once he’s done with his favourites, he likes them dead.
He used to head the science department. Not now. Missing out on a promotion to deputy CEO, he feels his wife’s disappointment in him. So, when a 7.1 earthquake strikes Christchurch, damaging his former work premises, Henry’s knowledge and health and safety skills are sought.
But his nemesis, the man who beat him for that job turns up to steal Henry’s limelight and treats him with contempt. Suddenly the two adversaries vie to be first to rescue a trapped girl. Henry can’t let his opponent win because that would bring into the light the secret he’s always kept in the dark.
A chilling short story about a serial killer that has you looking sideways at your neighbour!
